The seed was planted in September 2021. Every individual and every community has a story. Our story was created through the purest emotions of children and young people. We defined our community principle to appeal to children and young people of all colors. We infused our love for nature and each other into everything we do. The seed grew into a rose tree. The rose tree symbolizes the purest emotions and passion. We were inspired by our passion.
More than 10,000 people participated in our events (trainings, demonstrations, conferences, etc.), and tens of thousands more utilized our digital content, raising awareness about climate, environment, sustainability, and advocacy, becoming individuals who take action against social problems. Our campaigns have garnered over 120,000 signatures in total. We have carried the voices of young people to venues like the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) through events and reports such as the Local Conference of Youth, the Youth Environment Assembly, and TEDxBeşiktaş. We have represented our struggle with executives and decision-makers in institutions such as the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), ministries, and local governments, creating an impact through our work. We have partnered with numerous civil society organizations and implemented initiatives to transform companies.
In 2022, we were one of 20 communities selected globally by the United Nations Environment Programme and awarded a grant. We led the UNEP Youth Environment Assembly, held for the first time in Türkiye, and our report was represented at the international summit in Nairobi. We were selected by the UNFCCC and YOUNGO to convey the demands of young people in Türkiye to COP27 and COP28. We organized the first LCOY in Türkiye in 2022 and the second in 2023. We organized the climate crisis-themed Countdown event, TEDxBeşiktaş, at Feriye Palace. We formed the Youth Advisory Board of the Istanbul Planning Agency Climate Platform. We organized climate actions in provinces such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Bursa, Aydın, Edirne, Tekirdağ, Hatay, and Aydın. We set up stands at numerous festivals, organized workshops at biennials, and provided training in various provinces. We have developed social enterprises by being accepted into the entrepreneurship programs of institutions such as the İPA-İTÜ Çekirdek Entrepreneurship Center and the Knowledge Commercialization Center. Our entrepreneurial ideas and projects have earned our teams awards and recognition, including 6th place in the Teknofest Entrepreneurship Competition's Pre-Seed Education Technologies Program; 5th place in the UNICEF and Habitat Young Entrepreneurs Idea Marathon; finalists in Impact Hub and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation's Creative Activism program; and semi-finalists in ClimateXTurkey, a partnership between the Entrepreneurship Foundation-Impact Hub and the US Consulate. Climate Pioneers have been interviewed in publications such as BBC Turkish, Independent Turkey, TRT Radyo1, Agro TV, Hürriyet Newspaper, Yeşil Newspaper, Gazete Oksijen, Milliyet Newspaper, and Dünya Newspaper.
